Today I’m doing a review on the popular Penn Battle II spinning fishing reel. This reel is loaded with new updated features that make it one of the best saltwater reels around.
Battle II comes in eight different sized models they are 1000, 2000, 2500, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, and 8000.
This reel works wonders for catching those elusive saltwater gamefish with its durability and high range spinning capabilities. Nothing beats Penn with its durability and speed. To start off I will list some of the pros and cons of this spinning reel.

The number of model sizes is amazing! You can get the smaller sizes for inshore saltwater fishing of fish species like the striped bass and bluefish. The smaller versions would work for freshwater fishing as well.
The bigger models like the 4000, 5000, 6000, and 8000 you would go after your bigger saltwater fish like your sailfish, swordfish, and your occasional shark. Yes, I said shark I read that someone pulled in a 125-pound shark with the 6000 model with no problems! Now, that’s what I call a strong reel. With all these model’s it will be hard to decide which one to get.

This reel has it all with its full metal body including the side-plates, rotor, and aluminum bail wire this is as durable as it gets in a saltwater reel. Encased stainless steel ball bearings no salt water is going to penetrate these bearings!
Smooth powerful drag with its trademarked HT-100 carbon fiber drag system. This reel cranks smoothly with its 5 ball bearings and 1 anti-reverse bearing. No backing needed on its superline spool. The spool is braid-ready and has three line capacity rings at 1/3, 2/3, and full so you can glance over at your reel quickly and know how many lines you have left.
All models come in black/Gold/Smoke colors. They all come with front drag and right or left reel positions. I recommend you pick up one of these Penn Battle II spinning fishing reels. I know you won’t regret it.

I have actually been on the hunt for both a better rod and a better reel. I do a lot of saltwater fishing so this does sound promising. I am fairly new to fishing. Would the reel work on a surfpole? Have been looking for a proper surf rod as the little pole I have now would have issues with bigger fish.

I would get the model 8000 if you’re going to surf fish. That specific size reel should fit fine on a surf pole.
I recently went out fishing with a friend in the woods, it’s a pity I can’t share some of my pics here. We caught some amazing fish. It was a great experience for me, cos it’s been several years I went fishing!The only part of the experience that was less than pleasant was that we were less prepared with our fishing gears. We had no fishing reel and basically had to improvise with whatever we could find. Our expedition would have been great if we had one of these spinning reels. I am glad I found your site. The Penn Battle II models you review here are all great. I love that they are durable and adaptable. We are planning to return in 2 weeks’ time. I am considering getting the Model size 1000. For under $80, it perfectly fits my budget and fishing needs since we are not planning on catching any of the bigger sized fish like swordfish or sailfish. I am sure my fishing partner would love one of these too.
